Multi-Arts Camp Junior

This year we have expanded our signature Multi-Arts program to children entering kindergarten this fall. MAC Junior is a special one-week arts immersion camp created especially for young kids. Campers will explore Ireland’s history and culture through dance, music, theater and art. Children will work with our exemplary faculty in small groups for a unique, exciting summer experience! All supplies are included; a small snack will be provided.

Go Green Camp

Summer: August 3 - August 7
Ages 6 - 11

Afternoon Session:
1:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Teaching Artists: Marian Castro-Palaynk and Suzanne Penn

Join us for this week-long excursion into “Green” art and reduce your carbon footprint. Led by HCA’s Visual arts faculty, each day features a fun, eco friendly art activity. Campers will learn about the importance of conservation, reducing energy and recycling, through each project. Projects may include: paint an Earth Friendly tote bag, create photographs with the light of the sun, create wearable art from recycled materials and more! All supplies are included.

Mask Creation and Acting Camp

Ages 8-14
July 6 - July 10
12:00 noon- 3:00 pm

At Mayslake Peabody Estate
Taught by Ian McLaren and Mary Strasevicius

The Peabody Estate is the perfect theatrical and artistic setting for this unique class. Mask acting is very magical and a thrilling way to bring characters to life! In this fun 5 day camp young artists and actors will make their own masks and then learn to perform in them during games and scenes.

Art-rageous Sports Camp

Ages 7 - 11
July 6 - 10, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Teaching Artist: Suzanne Penn

We are excited to collaborate with both The Village of Hinsdale Parks and Recreation Department as well as The Community House to bring you this special program. Expand your skills on the field, while developing your artistic talents in this All-in-One camp. Campers will spend half the morning playing a variety of sports and games while learning the importance of sportsmanship with the sports staff. The second half of the morning, campers will work with HCA’s art faculty to create cool sport-related art projects. At the end of camp, each camper will see themselves as a “champion”! All supplies are included, a mid-morning snack will be provided.This class meets at The Community House, Hinsdale.

Splendid Shakespeare!
Ages 10 - 13
July 27 - 31, 9:00 a.m. - Noon

Teaching Artists: Anna Nuzzo & Suzanne Penn

During this integrated theatre and visual arts five day camp participants will investigate the artistry and process of Shakespearean Theater in a fun and creative environment. Students will create props and stage sets inspired by the Elizabethan era and perform in short scenes. Family and friends are invited to attend a performance on the last day of class. Camp will meet at Mayslake Hall, Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook.

Clay Creations Camp
August 10 - August 14
Ages 6 - 9: 9 am - 11 am
Ages 10 - 14: 12 pm - 2 pm

Students will create a series of projects throughout the five days using coil, slab and pinch pot techniques in clay. Projects may include; animals, bowls, platters, teapot, covered jars and a project of your child's choice! All supplies are included.
$150 HCA members/$175 non-members

Multi-Arts Camp 2009
Hinsdale Center for the Arts' signature program, Multi-Arts Camp, has provided a glimpse into the cultural life of far away lands and periods in history to children ages 6 -12 for over 16 years.  During this two-week arts immersion camp children work together with HCA's exemplary music, theater, dance and art faculty and are assisted throughout the day by camp counselors. Each session culminates with a special performance for family and friends. All supplies and snacks are included.

about the Stone and Iron Ages, manuscript illumination,
castles and architecture, Irish Dances, Vikings and more!

Morning: 9:00 am - 12:15 pm
Afternoon: 1:00 - 4:15 pm
Since the Ancient Polynesians first landed on the Hawaiian Islands as early as 300 BC, the Islands have attracted people from all over the world resulting in a diverse culture. Campers will learn about Hawaiian mythology, Hawaiian Language, feather work, Lei Making, Hula, petroglyph and more!


Girls Write!
For girls entering
grades 4 - 5

Morning: 9:30 am - 12:30 p.m. or Afternoon: 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.

Come join us for friendship and fun! This camp is designed specifically to empower and affirm budding girl authors. One of the themes for the week is “femininity”— girls will have the opportunity to write about what it means to be a girl and to have friendships with other girls. Activities include playing writing-related games, listening to literature by women authors, experimenting with different writing techniques, and providing feedback to each other. Girls write in a variety of forms, including poetry, memoir, and fiction. They also receive help revising and polishing their work. By the end of the camp, students will have created an anthology of their work, and made some new friends! Limited to 12 students. A mid-session snack is provided. $145 HCA members/$170 non-members

Girls Write ON!

For girls entering grades 6-8
August 3 - 7, morning 9:00 am- 12:00 pm

Teaching Artist: Carmela Martino
This class is a sequel to Girls Write, and combines the techniques from the earlier class with new materials, authors, and writing forms. As in the Girls Write camp, students will have the opportunity to write about what it means to be a girl and to have friendships with other girls. Students enjoy the same supportive environment as in Girls Write while delving more deeply into the art form of literature. Girls need not have attended Girls Write to register for this course. Limited to 12 students. A mid-session snack is provided.

Writing for Evil Geniuses, Boys Write

Grades 3 - 6
June 15 - June 19, 10:00 am - Noon

Teaching Artist: Adam Selzer
Learn how to use your skills as an evil genius (you ARE an evil genius, right?) to become the best writer in class. Over this week long camp, boys will learn that the more fun you have with writing, the better your writing will be. We will also touch briefly on maniacal laughter, secret hideout tips, and, yes, we will blow something up (safely) - and learn how all of these things can make you a better writer. Being a writer is a great job for evil geniuses - author Adam Selzer should know. He’ll show them. He’ll show them all! Muhahahahaha! This class will meet at Mayslake Hall on the grounds of Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook.

Theater and Improv

Ages 12 and up
Teaching Artist: Karen Burris

This is a class for anyone who wants to be on stage when the curtain rises. Improvisation, theater games, scene study and more promote self-confidence and prepare students to audition for plays and musicals. Class will culminate in a performance of scenes for family and friends. $120 HCA members/$145 non-members

Go beyond the ordinary and discover the artist within! Campers will have the opportunity to work individually or with each other in creating a multitude of projects that will utilize many elements of painting, drawing, and sculpture. The children will learn about different artists and art media and create art projects of their own from what they have learned. A mid-session snack will be provided.
